Fingers Crossed

I took a very cold and windy course tour this morning to look at how things melted off the rest of Friday and Saturday.  Almost all of the greens at Wildflower are exposed and all but a few areas are disease free and looking to be ready for play in 5 days.  Despite our best efforts last fall, there was a little snow mold damage to 12 green, but with a little TLC once the temps come back to normal, we should be looking at a good "green-up" this spring.

Here are a few pictures taken by Tolly, my assistant, April 10th. The top picture is of 15 green looking South East.  On my drive this morning, almost all of the snow is removed from the greens, and there is little to no snow left surrounding the green complex.  All of the snow fencing is removed, and the fence posts will be removed this week and repairs will be made to the post holes.   A good brushing in of the top dressing done last fall will work the sand into the canopy and allow us to firm up the greens for play starting Friday, April 18th (weather permitting).
The second picture is of the Pro Shop practice green a few hours after I removed the snow on Thursday.  It's amazing how fast the snow and little ice cover melts; there was a good foot of snow covering half of the green a few hours before this picture was taken.
The final picture is a view from behind 2 green looking East.  There is still a substantial drift leading up to #3 tees complex, but over the weekend, this too melted very fast.

We are looking at opening the driving range Monday, and with the drop in temperatures for the next few days, we will also see a slowing down of the snow melt for # 1, 8 and 10 fairways.

Thank you to all who have been keeping up with this blog,we've finally hit the 1000 views mark in a year!  I look forward to this summer and all of the improvements that we will be making to make Wildflower a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Make sure to keep checking the wildflowergolfcourse.com website for more updates.  There is another blog on there that focuses on the playing conditions and upcoming events here at Wildflower.
